One of our latest projects has been the rebuilding of two shops in Malton our hometown, which suffered extensive fire damage in 2002. maltech was engaged by the Fitzwilliam Estate to restore the shops to their former glory. Being in a conservation area, the repairs needed to be carried out with great attention to period style. Unfortunately the original front elevation was no longer robust enough to support the building, and so approval was obtained from the local authority to take this down and replace it with a new one of similar design.

Alan explains “This permission helped us a great deal, as the original frontage also included a tall, fragile masonry wall. Replacing the whole front elevation vastly reduced the health and safety issues involved. The project has been quite a challenge, but one maltech has risen to; the newly-restored building will be a superb combination of a modern structural ‘skeleton’ and a traditional facade – in short, the best of both worlds!”
